New binary gene expression system enables independent control of multiple cell types

Researchers at Japan’s National Institute of Genetics developed Cro/OR3, a new binary gene expression system that works independently alongside Gal4/UAS to control different cell types in zebrafish. The tool let them manipulate astrocytes while labeling neurons, revealing that astrocyte function can influence motor neuron positioning.
